Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sanghralaya

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vaastu Sanghralaya formerly known as Prince of Wales Museum.
The foundation was laid by Prince wales on 11th November 1905 and it was completed by 1913 but it opened for public in 1922. During this year gap it is used as Hospital for the World War I .

This is the one of the best examples of combination of Hindu and Islamic architecture and includes some parts of western architecture. The Museum is supported on eight stone pillar on the ground floor , which are the reminiscent of the Vimal Vashi Temple , Rajasthan. There are circular railing on 1st and 2nd floor which are made of wooden.

There are approx 50,000 art collection in museum which is categorized in three section Art, Archeology and Natural History.

Art Section

This displays the collection of Sir Purushottam Mavji , Sir Ratan Tata and Sir Doabji Tata donated in 1915, 1921 and 1933 respectively. This section represent Various art of Mughal , Rajasthani, Pahari and decani.
