Matheran "Forest on Forehead"

In the rush of Mumbai, there are some places in nearby of Mumbai where you can find peace. Matheran is one of them, where you can find peace. Matheran is a situated in western Ghat at elevation of around 800M and about 90 KM from Mumbai.

Matheran, which means "Forest on the Forehead," is an eco-sensitive region free from automobiles. This makes it a weekend gateway for many.

Attraction Point of Matheran

Toy Train

The main attraction of Matheran is Toy Train it was built in 1907 by Adamjee Peerbhoy and cover the distance of 20 KM. This rail route goes through forest land which make journey lush greenery. The train starts from Nerul Junction and goes to Aman Lodge station, then Matheran station. But in the rainy season, the ride from Nerul Junction to Aman Lodge is shut down and only operates between Aman Lodge and Matheran station.

Internal Transport 

As this hill station is automobile-free, the only modes of transport inside the hill station are horse riding, horse carts, and hand carts. If you have good company you can visit all places by walking.

TRANSPORTATION

By Road: - You Can Reach Matheran Through own Vehicle, routes are very easy and                              accessible.

By Rail: - Nearest Railway station is Nerul. You can come up to Nerul by Local train from                   any Place. From Nerul a Toy train goes up to Matheran but you need to check the                   availability of Toy train as its Shut down maximum time. From Nerul station                          many taxies are available for Matheran which cost only 100 INR.

Toy Train Timing: - From Neral to Matheran its operate between 06:30 hrs. to 18:00 hrs. 

                                 From Aman Lodge to Matheran its operate between 08:30 to 18:00 hrs.                                   at interval of 30 min
