Arnala Fort


This is the one of coastal fort located on island of Arnala village in Vasai, Mumbai. Due to all side water it is also known as 'Jaldurg' or 'Janjire-Arnala'.It was built by a local Chieftain Sultan Mahmud Begda of Gujrata in 1516. this is located on the mouth of 'Vaitarna River'. 

In 1530 it was conquered by Portuguese, they controlled the coastal area operation. In 1737 it's captured by Marathas in Battel of Vasai commanded by Chimanji Appa, brother of Peswa Bajirao 1st. Later it was captured by British on 18 January 1781 during 1st Angl-Marathas war but returned again to Marathas by treaty of Salbai.

CONSTRUCTION OF FORT

This fort is in shape of rectangle and surrounded by water. Currently the internal structure of fort is destroyed and only temple is available inside the fort. Boundaries wall still in good condition and the architecture of entrance gate is amazing. There is a well inside the fort which is in shape of 'Bawdi' in which you can find turtle.

HOW TO REACH 

The nearest railway station is Viral local station of Mumbai. Anyone can reach Virar station through local train from any place of Mumbai. From Virar station Arnala village is just 5 KM, you can reach there through auto. 
From Arnala beach there are boats available for island at every interval of 20 min, they charges 20 INR for both side of ride.
