Global Vipasana Paggoda

Global Vipassana Pagoda is the largest meditation hall in the world with the sitting capacity of 8000 meditator at a time. It is situated in Gorai Village of Mumbai, Maharashtra near Essel world and water Kingdom.
The idea of Pagoda is proposed by a renowned Vipassana meditation teacher Shree S N Goenka, his idea was to spread awareness about Dhamma - the teaching of Buddha .The construction of pagoda is planned in 1997 but actually it started in 2000 and the main dome which is larger in all of three is  completed in 2006 . Other two dome is completed in 2008 and its open for visitors in 2009. 

The construction of  Pagoda is the mixture of Buddhist architecture and Burmese design with golden color and the shape is similar to Shwedagon Pagoda of Myanmar. The larger Dome is constructed without any supporting pillar.

The bone relics of Gautama Buddha is enshrined in main dome. The relics were originally found in Bhattiprolu, Andhra Pradesh.  

How to reach
Pagoda is in Gorai village nearest to Borivali. From any place Borivali can be reached through local. From Borivali west station there are many buses with fare of 5 rupees and auto with max fare of 50 rupees goes to Gorai jetty. At Gorai Jetty there are several boat available with fare of 70 rupees return ride is also included in same fare.

Timing: - 10:00 Hrs to 18:30 Hrs
